Etihad Airways Partners with Bangkok Airways to Expand Loyalty Rewards Network

Crystal Travel | Travel News | 22 May 2026

A new frequent flyer alliance between Etihad Airways and Bangkok Airways gives loyalty members access to Southeast Asia's hidden gems and hundreds of global destinations via Abu Dhabi.

Two Networks, One Powerful Partnership

Two of Asia's most significant carriers have announced a landmark loyalty partnership that promises to reshape how travellers explore Southeast Asia and the world beyond. Etihad Airways' loyalty programme, Etihad Guest, and Bangkok Airways' FlyerBonus programme have officially joined forces, allowing members of both schemes to redeem miles and points across each other's networks.

Announced on 22 May 2026, the deal creates a seamless bridge between Bangkok Airways' regional reach across Thailand, Cambodia, and Laos, and Etihad's extensive international network spanning the Middle East, Europe, Africa, and North America — all connected through Etihad's hub at Abu Dhabi's Zayed International Airport.

What Travellers Can Now Access

For Etihad Guest members, the partnership opens the door to some of Southeast Asia's most treasured and lesser-explored destinations via Bangkok Airways' domestic and regional network. Members can now redeem accumulated miles on flights to Koh Samui's tropical shores, the ancient temples of Sukhothai, the UNESCO heritage city of Luang Prabang in Laos, and the iconic Angkor Wat gateway of Siem Reap in Cambodia — routes that were previously beyond the programme's reach.

The benefits work equally in reverse. Bangkok Airways' FlyerBonus members can now redeem their points on Etihad's international flights, connecting through Abu Dhabi to destinations across Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and North America. New Etihad destinations such as Palma de Mallorca, Krakow, and Salalah are among the options now available to FlyerBonus members for the very first time.

Etihad Expands Presence in Thailand and Southeast Asia

Etihad's A380 Coming to Bangkok This October

Alongside the loyalty partnership, Etihad has confirmed that its flagship Airbus A380 superjumbo will operate on the Abu Dhabi–Bangkok route from 25 October 2026. This marks the first time the iconic double-decker aircraft will fly to Thailand, and the move is timed to coincide with the peak winter travel season.

The A380 will operate Etihad's evening daily service, departing Abu Dhabi at 21:20 and arriving in Bangkok at 06:35 the following morning. The return departs Bangkok at 08:30, landing in Abu Dhabi at 12:20. Onboard, passengers will have access to Economy, Business, First Class, and Etihad's exclusive Residence — a private three-room suite featuring a living area, double bedroom, and en-suite shower.

A Landmark Moment for Travellers

Together, the frequent flyer partnership and the A380 deployment represent a significant statement of intent from Etihad about the importance of Thailand and Southeast Asia within its global strategy.

For British travellers, this means more ways to earn and spend loyalty rewards on journeys that connect the UK to some of the world's most captivating destinations — whether that's a cultural journey through ancient Laos, a beach escape on Koh Samui, or an onward adventure to Europe and beyond via Abu Dhabi.
