Luxair Launches Direct Flights to Helsinki, Edinburgh and Porto Santo as Network Grows to 101 Destinations

Crystal Travel | Travel News | 23 July 2026

Luxembourg's national airline strengthens its European reach with three new routes, offering UK travellers fresh options across Scandinavia, Scotland and the Portuguese islands.

Luxair Expands 2026 Flight Network

Luxair has expanded its 2026 flight network with new direct services from Luxembourg Airport to Helsinki, Edinburgh and Porto Santo. The three routes give passengers greater access to a Nordic capital, one of the UK's most popular city-break destinations, and a quieter island in Portugal's Madeira archipelago. Porto Santo flights began in March, followed by the launch of Helsinki and Edinburgh services in early July. The expansion supports Luxair's wider strategy of increasing connectivity from Luxembourg while offering a mix of business, cultural and leisure destinations.

Direct Flights Between Luxembourg and Helsinki

Luxair inaugurated its new direct route to Helsinki on 2 July 2026, with flights operating twice weekly on Mondays and Thursdays. The service offers convenient options for business travellers and holidaymakers planning short breaks or longer stays in Finland. Previously, passengers generally reached Helsinki via connecting flights, including services through Copenhagen. The new route cuts journey times and strengthens Luxair's Nordic network, which already includes Copenhagen, Stockholm and Oslo.

Helsinki offers a blend of modern architecture, waterfront neighbourhoods, traditional saunas and nearby islands. Popular attractions include Helsinki Cathedral, the Design District and the UNESCO-listed Suomenlinna sea fortress, making it an appealing addition for travellers seeking a Scandinavian city break.

New Edinburgh Route Boosts UK Connectivity

Luxair launched its Luxembourg–Edinburgh service on 3 July 2026, marking the airline's arrival at Edinburgh Airport. Flights operate every Monday and Friday, using the airline's Embraer E195-E2 aircraft. The schedule suits weekend breaks and short business trips, giving Scottish passengers a nonstop connection to Luxembourg, while offering travellers from Luxembourg easier access to the Scottish capital.

Edinburgh remains one of the UK's leading visitor destinations, known for Edinburgh Castle, the Royal Mile, Arthur's Seat and its internationally recognised festivals. Luxair said Helsinki and Edinburgh had been among the destinations most frequently requested by its customers, with both routes served twice weekly.

Luxair Network Reaches 101 Destinations

Following the launch of its Helsinki and Edinburgh services, Luxair confirmed it had added nine new routes during 2026, bringing its overall network to 101 destinations. Other additions to the airline's summer programme include routes to Alicante, Girona, Bilbao, Tunis and destinations in Greece, giving passengers more direct options across Northern Europe, the Mediterranean and the Atlantic islands.

This growth is supported by Luxair's fleet renewal programme, including the introduction of the Embraer E195-E2, now flying on selected services including the new Edinburgh route.

For UK travellers, the new services provide more choice for city breaks, business journeys and beach holidays. Passengers are advised to check current departure times and seasonal operating dates before booking, as schedules may be adjusted.
