Luxair Announces 11 New Routes for Major 2026 Expansion

Crystal Travel | Travel News | 20 July 2026

Luxembourg's national airline confirms its largest-ever summer schedule, with Edinburgh joining the network for the first time.

Luxair’s Major Route Growth

Luxair is rolling out one of the biggest network expansions in its history, with 11 new, relaunched or upgraded direct routes scheduled for 2026. The programme links Luxembourg Airport with destinations spanning the Mediterranean, Scandinavia, North Africa and the Middle East, taking the airline's total planned network to 101 destinations for the year, with 97 operating between 29 March and 24 October.

New And Returning Routes To Spain And Portugal

The expansion opened on 31 March with a weekly flight to Porto Santo, the quieter Portuguese island within the Madeira archipelago, operating every Tuesday. Alicante returned to Luxair's network on 1 April with Wednesday and Saturday departures, having last been served by the airline between 2017 and 2018. Girona joined on 2 June with two weekly high-season flights, boosting access to Catalonia and the Costa Brava, while Bilbao rejoins the schedule from 16 July with Thursday and Sunday services to Spain's Basque Country.

Greek Islands And Mainland Connected By New Route

Greece forms a key part of the 2026 programme. From 20 May, Luxair began a combined weekly service linking Zakynthos and Araxos, flying first from Luxembourg to Zakynthos before continuing to Araxos in the western Peloponnese and returning to Luxembourg. The route gives passengers direct access to both the beaches of the Ionian Islands and mainland attractions, including Patras and Ancient Olympia.

Edinburgh Becomes Luxair's First Scottish Route

The most significant development for UK travellers is the launch of flights to Edinburgh, which joined the network on 3 July. Operating year-round on Mondays and Fridays, it is Luxair's first-ever direct route to Scotland, opening up new possibilities for weekend breaks, business travel and visits timed around the Edinburgh Festival season.

Helsinki was also added in early July, with flights from 2 July operating every Monday and Thursday aboard Luxair's new Embraer E195-E2 aircraft, catering to both business travellers and city-break tourists.

Winter Growth With Abu Dhabi And La Palma

Luxair's expansion continues beyond summer. A new weekly service to Abu Dhabi is due to begin on 26 October 2026 and run until 4 May 2027, departing Luxembourg on Mondays and returning from Abu Dhabi on Tuesdays. The route complements Luxair's existing Dubai service, giving passengers an additional gateway to the UAE.

A weekly nonstop flight to La Palma is also scheduled to launch on 5 November, with the Thursday service taking around four hours and 45 minutes, adding further strength to Luxair's winter Canary Islands programme.

What The Expansion Means For Travellers

While several of these additions are returning rather than entirely new destinations, the expanded schedule significantly widens direct travel choices from Luxembourg, blending established beach destinations with business hubs, cultural cities and lesser-crowded holiday markets. For UK passengers, the Edinburgh route stands out as the headline addition, offering Scotland's first direct Luxair connection for both leisure and corporate travel.

Travellers looking to explore these new routes, whether flying direct or connecting onward through Luxembourg, may benefit from expert guidance on scheduling and fares. Crystal Travel's travel agents are on hand to help holidaymakers plan their trips around these newly confirmed services.
