Ryanair Expands Its Summer 2026 Schedule From Five Major UK Airports
British holidaymakers are in for a treat this summer. Ryanair, the UK's largest passenger airline, has announced a considerable expansion of its operations across five major UK airports ahead of the Summer 2026 season. The no-frills carrier is deploying additional aircraft, launching brand-new routes, and increasing the frequency of existing services — giving travellers across the country more options, more flexibility, and, crucially, more chances to bag a competitive fare before the peak summer rush kicks in.
From London to Newcastle, Manchester to Birmingham, the expansion touches airports that serve millions of British passengers every year, making this one of the most wide-reaching announcements Ryanair has made for the UK market in recent memory.
The bulk of the headlines centre on London, where Ryanair has unveiled five brand-new routes as part of its summer schedule. Travellers flying from London Luton can now head directly to Wrocław in Poland, whilst London Stansted gains connections to Forlì and Parma in Italy, Malmö in Sweden, and Glasgow in Scotland — the last of which is a particularly handy addition for those wanting a straightforward domestic link between the two cities without the fuss of connecting flights.
Beyond the new routes, Ryanair is also boosting frequencies on dozens of existing services from London, covering perennial British favourites including Alicante, Barcelona, Faro, Lisbon, Madrid, Málaga, and Malta. For anyone who's been holding off booking a summer getaway, now is very much the time to get on with it.
Up in the North West, Manchester Airport is seeing a notable uplift in capacity, with an additional Boeing 737 now stationed there for the summer season. Two new routes have been added — to Castellón on Spain's sun-drenched eastern coast and Rimini on Italy's Adriatic coast — whilst frequencies on a large number of existing routes have also been increased, including Faro, Porto, Rhodes, Barcelona, Dubrovnik, and Milan. Manchester remains one of Ryanair's most significant UK bases, now serving an impressive total of 82 destinations.
The Northeast has historically had fewer direct flight options than the rest of the country, so the news from Newcastle will be particularly welcome. Ryanair has stationed an additional aircraft at Newcastle International Airport, bringing meaningful growth to the region and expanding its network to 22 destinations. Four new seasonal routes have been introduced — to Brussels Charleroi, Budapest, Malta, and Marrakesh — alongside increased frequencies on routes including Barcelona, Faro, and Málaga. It's a significant step forward for North East travellers who've previously had to trek south for a decent range of departures.
Birmingham Continues to Grow
The Midlands hub is also reaping the rewards of Ryanair's expansion drive. Birmingham Airport now has nine Ryanair aircraft based there for the summer, with five new routes added to the schedule — Agadir and Marrakesh in Morocco, Rome Fiumicino in Italy, Tirana in Albania, and Warsaw Modlin in Poland. The airline has also increased frequencies on a range of existing popular routes, including Alicante, Barcelona, Malta, Paris, Porto, and Valencia. For Midlanders who've long complained about limited direct options, this summer should feel like a considerable step in the right direction.
It wouldn't be a Ryanair announcement without a dig at government policy, and this one is no different. Chief executive Michael O'Leary has been vocal in his criticism of the UK government's decision to raise Air Passenger Duty from 1 April 2026, arguing that the increase places British airports — especially regional ones — at a disadvantage compared to European counterparts where aviation taxes are being cut or scrapped entirely.
For passengers, the message is straightforward: book sooner rather than later. Fares on Ryanair’s new and existing routes are expected to be highly competitive, but the lowest-priced seats are unlikely to last long—especially on newly launched routes where early demand is typically strong.
