Annobon is a tiny volcanic island in the Gulf of Guinea, the most remote territory of Equatorial Guinea. With a population of around 5,000, it's one of the least accessible destinations in Africa. There are no regular commercial flights. Getting here from the UK requires flying to Malabo and then arranging extremely limited charter or government flights, or a 24-48 hour boat journey.
The international leg to Malabo connects through Addis Ababa (Ethiopian Airlines), Istanbul (Turkish Airlines), or Paris (Air France). These flights take around 12-16 hours with one stop. Once in Malabo, reaching Annobon is the real challenge. No commercial airline operates a regular service. Charter flights exist but need arranging well in advance through local contacts.
International return fares to Malabo range from £800-1,200 in low season to £1,600-2,500+ at peak times. Getting from Malabo to Annobon adds a variable cost, potentially £200-1,000+ depending on available transport.
Annobon is a volcanic island rising to 598 metres, covered in tropical forest. It's home to unique bird species and has untouched black sand beaches. The Portuguese-influenced culture is distinct from mainland Equatorial Guinea. This is a destination for true adventurers only.
Price Patterns
Annobon has a tropical climate. The dry season (May-September) is slightly better for boat crossings. Flight availability doesn't follow seasonal patterns.
Sweet Spot
June-August for the driest conditions and calmest seas. Arrange transport months in advance.
Avoid Booking
The wettest months (October-January). Sea crossings can be dangerous in rough weather.
