Oman Air Launches New Muscat to Singapore Flight Route, Plans North Asia Expansion

Gulf carrier begins nonstop Singapore service on Thursday, banking on lower costs and Oneworld alliance connections after an earlier attempt to serve the route fell short nine years ago.
Oman Air Launches Muscat–Singapore Flights
Oman Air has launched a new nonstop flight route between Muscat and Singapore, as the national carrier looks to capitalise on Oman's appeal as a largely untapped tourism destination. The new service began operating on Thursday, with the airline also weighing further expansion into North Asia over the coming year.
The launch marks Oman Air's return to the Singapore market almost a decade after its previous attempt to serve the route was discontinued. That earlier service relied on a stopover in Kuala Lumpur and was withdrawn nine years ago after failing to gain sufficient traction with passengers.
Oman Air Returns to Singapore with a Stronger Route Strategy
Why Oman Air's New Singapore Route Is Different This Time
Oman Air Chief Executive Officer Con Korfiatis said the airline is approaching the new Muscat-Singapore service with a considerably stronger foundation than before. He pointed to two central factors behind the relaunch: a lower operating cost base compared with the airline's earlier attempt, and Oman Air's membership in the Oneworld alliance, which it joined a year ago.
According to Korfiatis, Oneworld membership is expected to significantly improve connectivity for passengers flying beyond Singapore or connecting onward through Muscat, giving travellers access to a much wider network of partner airlines than was previously available. Removing the Kuala Lumpur stopover in favour of a direct nonstop service is also expected to make the route considerably more appealing to both leisure and business travellers, cutting overall journey times.
Oman Air's Push to Promote Oman as a Tourist Destination
The new route forms part of a broader strategy by Oman Air to position Oman as a compelling destination in its own right, rather than purely a stopover point between other regions. Despite its striking coastline, dramatic mountain ranges, desert scenery and historic cities, Oman remains comparatively overlooked next to some of its better-known Gulf neighbours.
With a direct link now established to Singapore, Oman Air is hoping to attract a new wave of Southeast Asian travellers keen to explore the Sultanate directly, tapping into rising regional demand for distinctive, lesser-visited destinations across the Middle East.
Oman Air Eyes Further Expansion Into North Asia
In addition to the Singapore launch, Oman Air is also considering expanding its network further into North Asia within the next year. While specific new destinations have not yet been confirmed, any such expansion would build on the momentum generated by the Singapore route and reflect the airline's wider long-haul growth ambitions.
Future North Asia routes are likely to draw on the same strategic advantages cited for the Singapore service, particularly improved cost efficiency and stronger connectivity through Oneworld's global partner network.
What the New Route Means for Travellers
For UK travellers, the new Muscat-Singapore service opens up an additional route to Southeast Asia via the Gulf, while also making it easier to reach Oman itself for those interested in its beaches, mountains, deserts and cultural heritage. As Gulf carriers continue expanding their long-haul networks and competing for both transit and point-to-point passengers, developments like this highlight the ongoing push to strengthen connectivity between the Middle East and Asia.
