Edinburgh Airport Introduces Home Baggage Check-In with Airportr and easyJet

New partnership lets eligible easyJet passengers check in luggage from home, a hotel, or an office before travelling to the terminal.

Passengers flying with easyJet from Edinburgh Airport can now avoid the bag-drop desk altogether, following the launch of a new home baggage collection service in partnership with Airportr. The paid service allows travellers to have their checked luggage collected before they even leave for the airport, making Edinburgh the first airport in Scotland to offer it.

The service allows eligible easyJet passengers to book a collection slot from a home, hotel, or office address. A driver arrives at the agreed time, checks the passenger's identification, seals the luggage, and transports it to Edinburgh Airport, where it is checked in on their behalf. This means travellers can go straight to security without stopping at the airline's bag-drop area, potentially saving time during busy periods.​​​​​​​

Customers using the service receive updates by email and SMS throughout the process, including a digital baggage receipt once bags have been checked in, along with real-time tracking so they can monitor their luggage before departure. On arrival, most passengers will collect their bags from the carousel as they normally would. The service currently launches with easyJet as the main airline partner at Edinburgh Airport, with further airlines expected to join in the future, although no confirmed timetable has been announced.​​​​​​​

Prices for the Edinburgh baggage collection and check-in service start from approximately £24, though the final cost varies depending on the collection address, distance from the airport, and number of bags. This fee is separate from any checked baggage allowance already purchased through easyJet. Standard suitcases can generally weigh up to 32kg, though all luggage must still comply with easyJet's own baggage policy, with larger items such as sports equipment or pushchairs accepted where permitted.​​​​​​​

Passengers may be asked to present passports, boarding passes or other travel documents at the point of collection, depending on whether online check-in has opened. In most cases, only the lead passenger needs to be present, although some bookings may require every traveller whose luggage is being collected to attend. It's worth reviewing the confirmation email carefully beforehand. The service does not replace standard security or boarding requirements, so passengers must still allow enough time to clear security and reach their gate.

The launch comes as Edinburgh Airport looks to reduce pressure in its check-in hall during peak summer travel. The airport has already invested £5.8 million in redesigning the space and adding 50 self-service kiosks ahead of last summer's season. It handled a record 16.9 million passengers in 2025, with several days this summer expected to be busier still.

Peter Barnes, Chief Operating Officer at Edinburgh Airport, said the partnership would give passengers greater choice and convenience during one of the busiest times of the year to travel.​​​​​​​
