Scottish travellers are set to benefit from improved transatlantic connectivity as Delta Air Lines extends its Edinburgh to New York service to run throughout the entire year, ensuring direct access to one of the world's most exciting cities, no matter the season.
Until now, Delta operated its direct Edinburgh to New York John F. Kennedy (JFK) route on a seasonal basis, running daily flights between March and October, and four flights per week through November and December. January and February were the only months with no direct service, leaving a gap that many travellers found inconvenient.
That gap is now closing. Delta has confirmed it will add three flights per week in January and February, completing a full 12-month schedule on the route. The service continues to be operated by Delta's wide-body Boeing 767 aircraft, with a non-stop flight time of approximately seven hours and 45 minutes.
Edinburgh Airport has long been Scotland's primary gateway to North America, and this latest development only strengthens that position. Delta already operates seasonal summer routes from Edinburgh to both Atlanta and Boston, cementing its status as the airline's key base in Scotland. The addition of year-round New York service adds a further layer of reliability for passengers planning their travel.
Edinburgh Airport's Chief Commercial Officer, Stephanie Wear, welcomed the announcement, saying it was "fantastic news for passengers" and highlighted the importance of continued connectivity to New York and onward destinations across North America through Delta's extensive hub network. She added that the airport looks forward to exploring further opportunities with Delta in the future.
New York JFK is one of Delta's most important transatlantic hubs, offering passengers seamless connections to hundreds of destinations across the United States and beyond. For travellers from Scotland, the direct Edinburgh to JFK route eliminates the need to connect through London or another European city, saving considerable time and hassle.
Whether it is a business trip to Manhattan, a family holiday to experience the sights of the Big Apple, or an onward journey deeper into North America, the non-stop service makes New York far more accessible for Scottish travellers throughout the year.
Delta is not the only airline boosting transatlantic options from Edinburgh. American Airlines has also launched a summer service between Edinburgh and New York JFK, operating on the brand-new Airbus A321XLR — one of the most advanced narrow-body aircraft currently in service. This means Edinburgh passengers now have two airlines offering direct connections to New York during the summer months, adding healthy competition and greater choice.
At Crystal Travel, we believe every journey should be as smooth and rewarding as the destination itself. Delta's expanded Edinburgh to New York schedule means more flexibility for our customers across Scotland and the wider UK to plan their dream American getaway — whether it is a winter city break or a summer adventure.
With year-round direct flights now available from Edinburgh, there has never been a better time to start planning your New York trip. Get in touch with our team today to find the best fares and tailored travel packages to suit your plans.
