Cathay Pacific Expands Airbus A350 Network as Hong Kong Cements Global Long-Haul Hub Status

New routes and rising passenger numbers reinforce Hong Kong's position as a key connecting point between the UK, Asia and North America.

Cathay Pacific is placing its Airbus A350 fleet at the heart of its long-haul ambitions, with the aircraft now firmly established as the airline's workhorse on routes linking Hong Kong with major cities across North America and Europe. The airline ended 2025 with 48 A350 passenger aircraft in service, comprising 30 A350-900s and 18 of the larger A350-1000 variant. Their extended range and fuel efficiency allow Cathay Pacific to operate demanding intercontinental sectors while offering Business Class, Premium Economy and Economy cabins throughout.
Demand for long-haul travel through Hong Kong has remained strong. Cathay Pacific carried more than 2.58 million passengers in June 2026 alone, around 12% higher than the same month the previous year, with the airline describing the outlook for the summer peak as encouraging.

North America has become an increasingly significant part of Cathay Pacific's expansion plans. The airline launched nonstop flights between Hong Kong and Seattle on 30 March 2026, operating five services a week and taking its North American passenger network to nine destinations, alongside Boston, Chicago, Dallas-Fort Worth, Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, Toronto and Vancouver.

Over the summer 2026 season, Cathay Pacific is operating close to 120 return passenger flights each week between Hong Kong and North America. Dallas-Fort Worth has developed into one of the airline's notable long-haul routes since launching in April 2025 with the A350-1000, with current schedules offering daily nonstop flights and journey times of around 17 hours and 15 minutes.​​​​​​​

Europe remains an important pillar of Cathay Pacific's long-haul network, with Hong Kong offering an alternative gateway between Europe and Asia-Pacific. Earlier in 2026, the airline added extra passenger flights to London, Paris and Zurich in response to higher demand following disruption affecting some Middle Eastern air routes, with additional capacity introduced on the London service in particular.
