Cheap Flights to Tamale from the UK

Flights from the UK to Tamale connect through Accra's Kotoka International Airport (ACC). British Airways flies direct from Heathrow to Accra in about 6 hours 30 minutes. KLM via Amsterdam and Brussels Airlines via Brussels are also popular options.

No direct international flights serve Tamale. Africa World Airlines and PassionAir operate domestic flights from Accra. From the UK, fly to Accra with British Airways, Virgin Atlantic, KLM, or Ethiopian Airlines, then connect domestically.

Return fares range from £420-570 in low season to £720-950+ during peak travel periods. December-January is peak season due to the Ghanaian diaspora returning for Christmas and the Afahye festivals. March-May and September-November typically offer the best deals.

Tamale is the largest city in northern Ghana, a gateway to Mole National Park and the traditional heartland of the Dagomba people. Tamale Airport (TML) is located about 15 km from the city centre.

Things to Do in Tamale

Mole National Park

Ghana's largest wildlife reserve, about 150 km west. Walking safaris with elephants, baboons, warthogs, and over 300 bird species. One of the few places in West Africa where you can walk with elephants.

Larabanga Mosque

One of West Africa's oldest mosques, built in the Sudanese mud-and-stick style. Dates to around 1421. Located near the entrance to Mole National Park.

Tamale Central Market

Northern Ghana's busiest trading hub. Shea butter, smoked fish, guinea fowl, and colourful woven baskets. A sensory experience, especially on market days.

Dagomba Cultural Sites

The Gulkpe-Naa Palace in Tamale reflects Dagomba kingship traditions. The Damba and Fire Festival celebrations (held annually) are among Ghana's most spectacular cultural events.

Tongo Hills

About 170 km east of Tamale. Whistling rocks, sacred groves, and the Tengzug Shrine. The landscape and traditional Talensi culture are unlike anything else in Ghana.
