Moheli (also called Mwali) is the smallest and most unspoilt of the Comoros islands, sitting in the Indian Ocean between Madagascar and Mozambique. There are no international flights. The only way from the UK is to fly to Moroni on Grande Comore and then take a short domestic flight or ferry.
Ethiopian Airlines via Addis Ababa and Kenya Airways via Nairobi offer the best connections to Moroni from London. From there, AB Aviation runs a handful of flights per week to Moheli's tiny airport, taking about 30 minutes. The ferry takes 3-6 hours but isn't always reliable.
Total return fares run £700-950 in low season, up to £1,200-1,600+ in peak periods. The inter-island flight or ferry adds another £60-120 return.
Moheli is home to the Comoros' only national park, Moheli Marine Park. Green sea turtles nest on its southern beaches from July to November. Humpback whales pass through between July and September. The island has around 45,000 people and just a few basic guesthouses. It's one of the most remote destinations in the Indian Ocean.
Price Patterns
Dry season (May-October) is best for travel and marine wildlife (turtle nesting July-November, humpback whales July-September). Cyclone season (November-April) brings weather disruptions.
