Getting to Matsapha means connecting through Johannesburg. The original Matsapha Airport (MTS) closed to commercial traffic in 2014, replaced by King Mswati III International Airport (SHO). Total travel time from London runs around 14-18 hours depending on your Johannesburg layover.
British Airways, Virgin Atlantic, and South African Airways fly direct from Heathrow to Johannesburg in about 11 hours. From there, Airlink and Eswatini Air operate short flights to SHO, taking roughly 50 minutes. Eswatini Air uses Embraer ERJ 50-seaters with comfortable 3-abreast seating.
Return fares from the UK range from £650-1,100 depending on season and booking lead time. December and January are peak, when South African summer holiday demand pushes prices up. April-May and September-October tend to offer better value.
An alternative is flying to Johannesburg and taking a ground transfer. Shuttle companies like TransMagnific run scheduled services between OR Tambo Airport and Eswatini. The drive takes about 4-5 hours, starting from around R750 one-way.
