Flights from the UK to Kumasi can now go direct from London Gatwick with Ethiopian Airlines, or connect through Accra's Kotoka International Airport (ACC). British Airways flies direct from Heathrow to Accra in about 6 hours 30 minutes. KLM via Amsterdam and Brussels Airlines via Brussels are also popular options.
Ethiopian Airlines launched direct flights from London Gatwick to Kumasi in December 2024, making it the first Ghanaian city outside Accra to receive direct flights from the UK. Africa World Airlines and PassionAir also connect Kumasi to Accra domestically.
Return fares range from £400-550 in low season to £700-950+ during peak travel periods. December-January is peak season due to the Ghanaian diaspora returning for Christmas and the Afahye festivals. March-May and September-November typically offer the best deals.
Kumasi is Ghana's second-largest city, the historic capital of the Ashanti Kingdom and a centre for gold trading and kente cloth weaving. Prempeh I International Airport (KMS) is located about 5 km from the city centre.

One of West Africa's largest open-air markets. Over 10,000 stalls selling everything from kente cloth and beads to food and electronics. Go early to avoid the worst of the crowds.
Kumasi Fort and Military Museum
Built by the British in 1820, the fort now houses a military museum with artefacts from the Anglo-Ashanti wars. Located in the city centre.
Bonwire Kente Village
About 18 km from Kumasi. The birthplace of kente cloth weaving. Watch weavers at work and buy directly from the source. Prices are much better here than in Accra.
Lake Bosomtwe
Ghana's only natural lake, formed by a meteorite impact about a million years ago. About 30 km southeast of Kumasi. Swimming, canoeing, and lakeside walks.
