Garoua sits in Cameroon's hot, dry North Region along the Benue River. There are no direct flights from the UK. The route from London involves flying to Douala or Yaounde (10-14 hours with one stop), then catching a Camair-Co domestic flight to Garoua, which takes about 1 hour 15 minutes from either city.
Brussels Airlines via Brussels and Air France via Paris are the fastest options for the international leg. Turkish Airlines via Istanbul and Ethiopian Airlines via Addis Ababa are alternatives. From Douala or Yaounde, Camair-Co is the only domestic carrier serving Garoua, with a limited schedule of a few flights per week.
Expect to pay £550-700 return in low season for the total trip (international plus domestic), rising to £850-1,200+ around Christmas. The domestic leg with Camair-Co adds around £80-150 return. Midweek travel and advance booking help keep costs down.
Garoua is one of Cameroon's hottest cities, regularly hitting 40°C from March to May. It's the gateway to Waza National Park, one of West Africa's most important wildlife reserves, about 120 km to the north. The Benue River runs through the city, and the surrounding landscape is dry savanna.
