Berberati is the second-largest city in the Central African Republic, located in the south-western Mambere-Kadei prefecture. There are no scheduled commercial flights here. The practical route from the UK is to fly to Bangui, the capital, and then travel overland, a journey of around 600 km that takes 12-20 hours by road.
For the international leg to Bangui, Ethiopian Airlines via Addis Ababa, Turkish Airlines via Istanbul, and Air France via Paris are the main options from London. Expect the international flight to take 12-16 hours with one stop. From Bangui, you'll need a 4x4 vehicle and a reliable driver for the road to Berberati.
The international return flight to Bangui costs £700-1,000 in low season, up to £1,300-1,800+ over Christmas. Add £200-500 for ground transport to Berberati depending on vehicle type and whether you're sharing.
Berberati is a centre of the diamond mining industry and sits at the edge of the equatorial forest. The region is known for its Baka pygmy communities and tropical wildlife. Be aware that the FCDO advises against all travel to most parts of the Central African Republic due to ongoing security concerns.
Price Patterns
Limited flight options to Bangui mean prices don't vary as much as other destinations. The dry season (December-March) makes overland travel easier but flights are pricier due to holiday demand.
Sweet Spot
Book as early as possible for the international flight. November or March for a balance of cost and dry roads.
Avoid Booking
Rainy season (May-October) when roads to Berberati can become impassable. Check FCDO advice at all times.
