Abeche is the main city in eastern Chad, located about 900 km east of the capital N'Djamena. There are no international flights here. Getting to Abeche from the UK means flying to N'Djamena first, then either catching a very limited domestic flight or making the long overland journey east.
Turkish Airlines via Istanbul and Air France via Paris are the main carriers to N'Djamena from London. Ethiopian Airlines via Addis Ababa and EgyptAir via Cairo also serve the route. The international leg takes around 10-14 hours with one stop. From N'Djamena, domestic flights to Abeche are irregular. The overland route takes 12-20+ hours.
International return fares to N'Djamena run £650-900 in low season, rising to £1,200-1,700+ over Christmas. Add £100-300 for domestic flights or overland transport. Total budget for the journey: £750-2,000+.
Abeche was historically an important trading centre on trans-Saharan caravan routes. The city has a historic sultan's palace and sits at the edge of the Sahel. Be aware that the FCDO advises against all travel to eastern Chad due to security risks from the nearby Darfur conflict zone.

Flight options to N'Djamena are limited. Dry season (October-April) is better for overland travel. Rainy season (May-September) makes roads difficult.

Book as early as possible. October-November for reasonable fares and dry road conditions.
