Victoria, the Seychelles' capital, is the best place to get a feel for local life beyond the beaches. The Seychelles National Botanical Gardens, the Sir Selwyn Selwyn-Clarke Market, and the Victoria Clocktower are all worthwhile attractions. While the city's museums and historic structures showcase its diverse Creole, African, French, and British heritage, the market is a great place to purchase fresh food, spices, and locally made crafts. Most of Victoria's attractions sit within easy walking distance of one another, so it works well as a half-day addition to a Mahé itinerary.
