First Class
First Class travellers benefit from up to 50kg of total checked baggage, along with two cabin bags totalling 14kg.
Infant Baggage
Infants travelling without a seat are entitled to 10kg of checked baggage on international flights. One stroller or carrycot is included, and a car seat may be accepted subject to Qantas safety and size conditions.
Special Equipment
Items such as golf bags, skis, bicycles, surfboards, and musical instruments usually require advance notice. Acceptance and fees depend on the item's size, weight, and route, and are assessed individually by Qantas.
Excess Baggage
Extra charges apply if you exceed your baggage allowance. Pre-purchasing excess baggage online is usually cheaper than paying at the airport. No single piece can exceed 32kg regardless of total allowance.
Best Months to Visit
March to May and September to November usually offer good value and pleasant weather in Australia. These periods fall outside major holidays and peak travel seasons.
Peak Travel Periods to Avoid
Fares are typically higher during Australian summer (December to February), Christmas, New Year, Easter, and UK school holidays when demand peaks.
When to Book for the Best Prices
Booking 8 to 12 weeks in advance often gives the best balance of availability and price. Last-minute deals are rare on Qantas long-haul routes to Cairns.
