Traditional Arabian Hospitality
Gulf Air, Bahrain's national carrier, has served passengers since 1950. The airline connects the UK to Abu Dhabi through its Bahrain hub, where transfers between terminals are straightforward.
In-Flight Entertainment
Gulf Air uses the Thales AVANT entertainment system with movies, TV programmes, music and games. On the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, economy passengers get a 10-inch touchscreen. Falcon Gold passengers get a 22-inch screen.
Complimentary Wi-Fi
Wi-Fi is available on all Boeing 787-9 aircraft and select Airbus A321neo flights. Passengers can stay connected throughout the journey, though some regions have limited coverage due to regulations.
Comfortable Economy Seating
Economy Class seats on the Boeing 787-9 offer around 32 inches of legroom in a 3-3-3 configuration. The Recaro CL3710 seats include adjustable headrests and USB charging ports.
Complimentary Meals & Drinks
All Gulf Air flights to Abu Dhabi include complimentary meals, snacks and beverages. Hot meals are served on longer sectors with refreshments available throughout.
Special Meal Options
Vegetarian, halal, kosher, medical, children's meals and other dietary options are available. Requests should be made at least 24 hours before departure.
Bahrain Stopover
Passengers with longer layovers in Bahrain can explore the capital city. Gulf Air sometimes offers stopover packages for eligible connecting passengers, subject to availability.
London Heathrow (LHR)
Twice daily flights to Bahrain using Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft from Terminal 4, with onward connections to Abu Dhabi.
London Gatwick (LGW)
Three weekly flights to Bahrain from the North Terminal (Wednesday, Friday, Sunday), connecting through to Abu Dhabi.
Manchester (MAN)
Four to five weekly Boeing 787-9 flights to Bahrain with connections onwards to Abu Dhabi.

Falcon Gold (Business Class)
Falcon Gold passengers receive up to 40 kg of checked baggage with 2 bags at 32 kg maximum each. Two cabin bags are permitted with combined weight up to 9 kg. On the Boeing 787-9, seats convert to fully flat beds.
Infant Baggage
Infants travelling without a seat are entitled to 10 kg of checked baggage. One stroller or carrycot is included free of charge, and car seats may be accepted subject to Gulf Air's safety requirements.
Special Equipment
Sports equipment such as golf bags, skis, bicycles and musical instruments require advance notice. Acceptance and fees depend on the item's size, weight and route, assessed individually by Gulf Air.
Excess Baggage
Extra charges apply if you exceed your baggage allowance. Pre-purchasing excess baggage online is cheaper than paying at the airport. Costs depend on the route and weight, confirmed during booking or at check-in.
Best Months to Visit
The ideal travel period depends on Abu Dhabi's climate and peak seasons. Shoulder seasons often offer better fares and pleasant weather for most destinations.
Peak Travel Periods to Avoid
Fares are typically higher during Christmas, New Year, UK school holidays, and local festivals at your destination. Eid periods can also see increased demand on Gulf Air routes.
When to Book for the Best Prices
Booking 8 to 12 weeks in advance often gives the best balance of availability and price. Last-minute deals are uncommon on Gulf Air routes to Abu Dhabi.

Gulf Air runs fare sales around Boxing Day, January sales and occasionally during the Bahrain Grand Prix period. Sale routes and dates vary each year.
