Príncipe is one of the two main islands of São Tomé and Príncipe, a tiny nation in the Gulf of Guinea off Central Africa. Getting there from the UK takes at least two connections: London to Lisbon, Lisbon to São Tomé, then São Tomé to Príncipe.
TAP Air Portugal operates the Lisbon-São Tomé route several times weekly. STP Airways handles the inter-island connection from São Tomé to Príncipe, a flight of about 35 minutes on a small turboprop.
Total return fares from London including all connections run £700-1,800 depending on season. This is a remote, premium destination. August and December are the most expensive periods. The inter-island hop adds about £80-120 each way.
Príncipe has just 8,000 inhabitants and is a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. It's one of Africa's most unspoiled islands, with pristine rainforest, deserted beaches, and almost no tourism infrastructure outside a handful of eco-lodges.
