Graycliff Cigar Co: Strolling through this cigar factory is like going to Cuba in 1920s. You will see around 16 torcedores (cigar rollers) working and rolling dried tobacco leaves into premium stogies in a narrow, yellow room with mosaic floors. You can also take cigar-rolling lessons or opt for rum tastings from Monday to Saturday.

Pirates of Nassau: A favourite among kids and their parents, this museum is the perfect mix of entertainment and history. You will see here many extraordinary things including a replica of the pirate ship Revenge and animatronic pirates. There is also a gift shop next door good enough for some souvenir shopping.

National Art Gallery of the Bahamas: If you want to get away from the chaos of Bay Street, find a refuge in this stately 1860s-era Villa Doyle that has been turned into an art museum. A must-visit place in this Bahamian town, the museum exhibits a permanent collection of some important works of contemporary local artists including sculptor Antonius Roberts and folk painter Wellington Bridgewater. There are also temporary exhibits on cultural, ecological and historical themes related to the island.

Government House: This lavish Georgian mansion is the residence of the governor-general. Built on the site of a previous structure that was constructed in 1737 that got damaged in a hurricane in 1929, the mansion has undergone many renovations and lavish redecorations during the time of Duke of Windsor as governor. You will also see the statue of Christopher Columbus overlooking Duke St built in 1830.

Fort Fincastle & the Queen’s Staircase: Built by Lord Dunmore in the year 1793, this hilltop fort is shaped like a digital-map pinpoint. It was constructed to guard the harbour against invaders but never used and eventually converted into a lighthouse. The fort is worth a visit for the breath-taking views from the top. Queen’s Staircase is undoubtedly the highlight of the fort that was built from solid limestone and hand-carved by slaves.

John Watling's Distillery: Watling's Distillery is new to the Bahamas rum-distilling game but a visit to the beautifully restored 18th-century Buena Vista Estate is a must on your list. You will see its extensive gardens strolled staff in colonial-era costumes. Take a free 15-minute tour of the house and distillery that was named after a 17th-century pirate or you can make your way straight to the bar. The atmosphere is quite lively on Friday nights when locals gather here for drinks.

Ardastra Gardens, Zoo & Conservation Centre: Spread over a 4-acre land, this lush tropical garden is a favourite among kids and houses a small zoo with over 180 animals of 60 different species. Highlights include the Madagascan lemurs and endangered Bahamian boa constrictors. However, the small regiment of marching West Indian flamingos catches the most attention of the crowd.

Doongalik Studios: Showcasing the modern Bahamian art, Doongalik Studios holds an exhibition on contemporary artist’s work. Visitors can also opt for musical performances and book launches that take place here frequently. The studio is situated in the two-storied building surrounded by gardens and there is also a farmer’s market every Saturday morning.
