Spread over 51 hectares of land, you will come across a restored 1877 palm house, the water-lily pavilion, the First Creek wetlands and the Museum of Economic Botany. There is also a steel-and-glass arc of the Bicentennial Conservatory recreating a tropical rainforest and open from 10 am to 4 pm. Free guided walks depart from Schomburgk Pavilion at 10.30 am daily. There is also a classy Botanic Gardens Restaurant here.

Adelaide Zoo: The zoo dates back to 1883 and over 1800 exotic and native mammals, birds and reptiles are found here. Opt for a free walking or go for feeding sessions. There is also a children’s zoo here. Wang Wang and Fu Ni, Australia’s only giant pandas draw a large crowd. The reptile house is another highlight here. You can opt for a river cruise at the zoo.

West Terrace Cemetery: This old cemetery was established in 1837 and makes for a fascinating detour. The 2-km long Heritage Trail passes through 29 key sites and you can pick up a brochure at the West Terrace gates. You can opt for guided tours that run at 11 am every second Sunday.

National Wine Centre of Australia: Opened in 2011, it is a public exhibition about winemaking along with a research facility for the University of Adelaide. By visiting this wine centre, you can understand the various issues that winemakers struggle with. Waterfall Gully: Located in the foothills of the Mount Lofty Ranges, it is a series of waterfalls with a long gully.
