Skip the Stopover. Edinburgh to Ljubljana, Direct with EasyJet.
There are moments when a single new flight route genuinely changes things. EasyJet's brand-new direct service between Edinburgh and Ljubljana is one of them. Slovenia's charming capital has long been a destination that well-travelled Europeans rave about — and now, for the very first time, Scottish travellers can reach it without a single stopover or connecting flight.
The route launched on 4 April 2026 — the Easter weekend — becoming the only direct air link between Scotland and Slovenia. For anyone who has been putting off a trip to this corner of Central Europe, the excuses have officially run out.
The Flight: Everything You Need to Know
EasyJet operates the Edinburgh–Ljubljana service twice weekly, on Wednesdays and Saturdays, through to the end of October 2026 and covering the entire spring and summer season. The service is operated on an Airbus A320 aircraft carrying up to 186 passengers. Wednesday departures are ideal for a mid-week city break, while Saturdays open the door to a full weekend escape or a longer holiday deep into Slovenia's spectacular countryside.
Ask anyone who has visited Ljubljana and the response is almost always the same — they wish they had gone sooner. Slovenia's capital is compact, walkable, and bursting with personality, yet it has managed to hold onto an authenticity that many better-known European cities have long since lost.
The medieval Ljubljana Castle dominates the skyline and is reachable by funicular, rewarding visitors with sweeping rooftop views across the city. Below, the pedestrianised old town hugs the banks of the Ljubljanica River, lined with open-air cafés, boutique shops, and the iconic Triple Bridge — three elegant crossings sitting side by side that serve as the true heart of the city centre.
Slovenian cuisine draws from its neighbours — Austrian, Italian, and Balkan influences combine to create a food culture that genuinely surprises. The country also produces excellent wines, particularly its native Rebula variety, widely available across the city's laid-back wine bars. Compared to Western European capitals, Ljubljana remains a refreshingly affordable destination in almost every respect.
Just 55 kilometres northwest of Ljubljana, reachable in under an hour by car or bus, lies Lake Bled — one of the most visually stunning landscapes in the whole of Europe. An emerald alpine lake, a medieval clifftop castle, and a tiny baroque island church sitting at the water's centre combine to create scenery that barely looks real. Visitors reach the island by traditional wooden pletna boats, where legend has it that ringing the church bell three times grants a wish. A six-kilometre walking trail loops the entire lake and ranks among the most scenic leisure walks on the continent.
Slovenia is more affordable than most of its Central European neighbours, uses the euro, and — thanks to this new route — is now easier than ever to reach from Scotland. With flights running all the way through to October, there has never been a better time to discover one of Europe's most beautiful and underrated destinations.
