Mahabat Khan Mosque: The finest example of 17th century Mughal architecture, Mahabat Khan Mosque was built in 1630 by Governor of Peshawar under Mughal emperor Shah Jahan. With its ornate interior and lovely water reservoir, the mosque is spread over an area of 30,150 square feet. Exterior of the mosque is embellished with flower motifs and Quranic calligraphy. Dress modestly when you visit the mosque and perform prayers in the courtyard.

Sethi Street: The Sethi Mohallah, an arranged neighbourhood in the old city of Peshawar contains rare examples of Central Asian-inspired architecture elaborate with wood carvings. These buildings were constructed by the once prosperous trader family. The intricate woodwork, along with ornamental interiors and stained glass windows make for a fascinating look around. Most of these homes are privately owned.

Bala Hisar Fort: The oldest fort in Peshawar, it was first built by Babar after capturing the city. The fort was the royal residence of Afghan Durrani dynasty before they were captured and trashed in 1834, after which it was rebuilt in mud by the Sikhs and later replaced with bricks by British. The fort now acts as the headquarters of the Frontier Corps. Access is limited but the small museum inside is open for public.

unningham Clock Tower: Locally known as the ‘Ghanta Ghar’, the Cunnigham Clock tower is located quite near to the city centre, Chowk Yadgar. It was built in 1900 to commemorate the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Victoria.

Khyber Pass: The pass has long been the part of the legendary Silk route and a gateway to South Asia, travelled by merchants, kings and rulers, explorers and conquerors, the likes of Alexander the great and Mughals. It connects Pakistan to the troubled Afghan territories. Security is of concern and the trip to this place should be left for better times.
